About
Astronomy Club, IIT Delhi was started in 2nd semester, 2009-10 with an objective to provide its students an exposure to the amazing field of astronomy as well as to provide the amateur astronomers/ hobbyists a community of fellow students with the same passion.
Goals:
- To provide astronomy hobbyists/ amateur astronomers a medium to pursue their hobby as well as to bring together students who have a common passion for astronomy.
- To provide amateur astronomers a platform to pursue their research work, which might include some small projects like mapping/ discovering small binaries/ variable stars etc.
- To contribute to the astronomical research being done in the country.
Proposed activities:
- Theory sessions: Each member will be free to discuss any idea that he/ she comes up with or give a lecture/ presentation on a pre-decided topic that everybody wants to learn about. Alternatively, the club coordinator can invite an amateur astronomer/ prominent scientist/ professor to give a guest lecture to inspire the students to pursue technological research in this field.
- Observation sessions: The members would be free to use the telescopes/ binoculars/ star maps with the club to pursue their hobby of star gazing/astrophotography or even research.
- Excursion to an observation site once a semester: Depending upon the interest of the students as well as depending upon whether some interesting astronomical event is about to occur.
- Nehru Planetarium visit
